Just a Perfect Day

Last week was tough, nothing particularly awful but just one of those patches where I couldn't get enough sleep, enough done, and lots of little things were driving me nuts. Breaking out of a rut is always the biggest challenge for me, so I was determined to start off this Monday on a fresh note.

I pushed aside every obligation and spent the day with my favorite little pal outside, enjoying the cool fall sunshine. We went to our garden plot, picked some veggies and lay in the grass. We played on the swings, buzzed like bumblebees, and collected fallen leaves. It was a perfect day. So perfect that I couldn't stop smiling and I felt completely at peace.

Today was back to chores like waiting for car repairs and battling Red Sox traffic, but luckily I'm still riding high from my Monday... this is going to be a good week!

  1. Good for you, ruts are hard sometimes. I think getting yourself a cool dinosaur jumper like Little Smith will help too! Would make everyone perky :o) xx

    ps. I want one !

  3. That's the spirit! Buzzing like bumble bees always helps, I've found-- my youngest & I spoke bee language quite frequently-- it always made us laugh {still buzz duzz buzz}

  5. We always seem to try to head into the city via T when the thousands of die hard fans are en route to Fenway. Miserable! When is the season over already?!

    I hate ruts. And I seem to be in a bit of one lately, too. To battle it, Alice and I are having a lazy day at home today as taking her out and about disrupts her little nap time schedule and sets the evenings up for a cranky baby. Which sometimes results in a cranky mommy, of course.

    Is your little garden plot one of those beautiful ones in the Back Bay Fens?

    1. I know the baseball season is endless and I teach at night far too close to Fenway which makes for a nightmare! Those gardens by the Fens are great, we have friends with a plot there... but no our's is out in Belmont near where we live. It's a larger area that's also a bluebird sanctuary and the plots are quite a bit bigger- but not right in the city which obviously has it's own charm :)

      Hope your lazy day does the trick! Sometimes those are the best.

    1. Thanks, no we live pretty much in the city... just outside actually and have a very small yard. This is our community garden where we have a plot that's about 20x20- and we are there enough that it almost feels like home :)

  8. Incredible day you had! I know what you mean... we have been having a rough time over here as well, and breaking out of the rut can be difficult (but necessary). I'm amazed by how much fun I can have when I just slow down and notice the world around me, especially through the eyes of my boys.

    LOVE that picture of W handing you a green tomato. Such a great shot!

  11. i just fell into your blog via lauren knight who i think came to mine via cortnie of tiny particles of light... anyways, i am enjoying reading your posts and visiting your world. i wish it were cool here - i long for a traditional four seasons, but my husband thinks it would not be as nice as i think - we're from california. i love your snapshot idea and would like to do the same - i will credit you for the idea. i was spending so much time writing a post all about my grandmother and i went off on a tangent (kind of like i'm doing here) when all i wanted to do was write a little blurb about her. keep her alive on the blog, you know? so... thanks! you solved my blog problem! -anushka

  12. Beautiful pictures! You have such a great thing going with this garden, I bet it's hard to be saying goodbye as fall begins. But it looks like you put in lots of quality time with it and W.

  13. Glad to hear you got out of your rut and had a nice day!

    Your photos are always so perfect and beautiful - what kind of camera do you use? I want a real camera again (ours was stolen when our house was burgled) and I have been conducting an informal poll of what people are using so I can figure out what to get when the time (aka budget) is right.

    1. Thanks Allison, these were all taken with a Canon Rebel T2i. It's worked out great for us because it isn't as heavy as the higher end models (although it still feels heavy to carry around all day). We also still use our film camera and even my iPhone. So sorry your camera was stolen, that's my nightmare. I'm very attached :)
